Introduction
The Gulf is one of Australia's last frontier areas. The combination of natural wonders, coupled with its cultural and social history, makes the journey across the Gulf Savannah richly rewarding for the adventurous.

The land and climate determined the behaviour and well-being of the many tribes of Aboriginal people who lived in the region for thousands of years. The control of the land over human action is not so obvious in modern industrial societies, which appear to be - up to a point - more in control of their surroundings. But a single monsoon storm in the Gulf can alter one's fortune, surrendering one to the whim of nature.

Wildlife is abundant, but precautions should be taken because the salt water crocodiles that inhabit most of the rivers and creeks that feed into the Gulf are not as friendly as the local people!
