Introduction
Mention Phillip Island and the first attraction that springs to mind is the world-famous Penguin Parade which ranks as Australia's second most popular natural attraction. Each evening at sunset, groups of the Little Penguin, the smallest of the species, emerge cautiously from the sea after a day foraging for small fish and squid. Apparently unconcerned by large crowds of delighted spectators, they stagger up the beach to reach their burrows in the dunes.

During the breeding season ravenous chicks will enthusiastically greet parents, who will respond by regurgitating food for them.

Phillip Island has many other natural attractions apart from its charming penguins.
About 5000 Australian fur seals inhabit the well-named Seal Rocks during breeding season from October to January. Once seriously threatened with extinction because they were hunted for their fur, the animals are now protected and their numbers have increased.

There is also a colony of koalas on Phillip Island which has been established since the 1870s. They have bred so successfully that hundreds have been sent to other reserves on the mainland, helping to preserve the nation's koala population.

Mutton birds are regular visitors to the island, arriving in vast numbers each September to breed in the extensive network of rookeries near Cape Woolamai. These remarkable birds fly from islands in the Bering Sea to Phillip Island each year, a distance of 15,000km. Penguins and mutton birds are not the only notable birds on the island. Extensive coast and wetlands near Rhyll ensure a healthy population of waders and sea birds.

Phillip Island also boasts several beautiful beaches, sheltered, surf, or wild according to taste, and some dramatic landforms such as the rearing red cliffs of Cape Woolamai, The Nobbies and the Blowhole.
